There are many reasons why you would like to remove old tattoos. There may be an association with the tattoo that you would like to forget, it no longer reflects who you are now, or it simply is no longer appealing to you. Sometimes it’s even for the military or employment requirements. Looking for a cover-up? Laser removal is occasionally a necessary step to lighten up an old tattoo to expand your options for a cover-up piece.
Each session takes only a matter of minutes. While laser technology is the most effective method for removing a tattoo, it will take multiple treatments to achieve the results we are looking for. It is impossible to predict how many treatments will be needed for a specific tattoo because of the variations in ink and colors used by artists today and everyone’s body is different. Some colors and types of ink are much more difficult to remove than others. Every skin type and tattoo is different and depending on how fast your body can process the old ink it will affect how quickly you see results.
In coordination with the best laser technology, we use a Zimmer Chiller. The chiller blows 20 degree air on the skin during treatment to help numb the area and reduce or eliminate any discomfort.
Full removal or lightening for cover-up: Some clients are only looking for 3 or 4 sessions to lighten up the old tattoo enough to create a new masterpiece over it. Others are looking for full removal which will take more sessions.
Professional vs. Amateur tattoo: Older and amateur tattoos can take less treatments to remove. Generally, amateur tattoos can be removed in 5 to 6 treatments. Professional tattoos are more difficult to remove and can take 6 to 12 treatments for a full removal.
*Note: The terms ”professional” and “amateur” tattoos is used to describe how well the tattoo was done. Just because a tattoo was done in a shop doesn’t necessarily mean is was done to professional standards and vice versa.
Age of the tattoo: The older the tattoo is, the more time the sun and your body have already broken down and processed much of the ink. Time has already done some of the hard work over the years.

At Blue Jacket we have the best laser technology that money can buy. We use a Quanta Q-Plus C Q-switched laser which is the only laser that can truly remove all color types. It is considered the gold standard when it comes to laser tattoo removal and can be used on every area of the body.
When a tattoo is created, the ink is placed with a needle deep into the dermis of the skin. The Q-switched laser breaks down the tattoo ink into microparticles of ink that can be absorbed by the body and removed by the lymph system as the tattoo gradually fades out.
Immediately after your laser tattoo treatment, you may notice some bruising, or redness. This generally resolves after approximately a week. Each client will be provided with aftercare instructions for you to use after your laser treatment. Other possible side effects of laser removal are blisters or reactions to the ink being released, and a skin whitening effect which will go away as it heals.
